Get good fast

There’s a reason SketchUp is synonymous with friendly and forgiving 3D modeling software: we don’t sacrifice usability for the sake of functionality. Start by drawing lines and shapes. Push and pull surfaces to turn them into 3D forms. Stretch, copy, rotate and paint to make anything you like.

Turn models into documents
At some point in most 3D projects, you’ll need to turn your model into a drawing set that gets the point across. LayOut in SketchUp Pro lets you add model views to pages, choose drawing scales, adjust line weights, and add dimensions, callouts, and graphics. Make a change to your SketchUp model, and find it reflected automatically in LayOut. And when it’s time, export pages as PDFs, images and CAD files.
Learn the basics
LayOut is designed to look, feel, and behave like SketchUp. That means it’s easy to learn too.

Watch a master at work

Using LayOut and SketchUp Pro for construction documentation is a powerful process. Learn how one expert creates stunning, effective drawings
Find a 3D model of anything
Why model everything from scratch? Whether it’s a chair for the room you’re designing or a rhino for your zoo, you’ll find anything you need in 3D Warehouse, the world’s biggest library of free 3D models. And anyone can use 3D Warehouse to store and share models. Upload your best work and become a SketchUp legend.

Here’s what’s new in 2018...

Smarter Sections
Named Sections
Just like components, section planes have names and symbols, making them easy to find, organize, and edit in Outliner. Now, it’s  easy to access and manage sections whenever you need to.

Filled Section Cuts
Filled Section Cuts are now baked into SketchUp Pro. Select a color for your fills via the Styles dialogue and bake them into templates.

Fast Sections
SketchUp features improved performance for models that use section planes to hide large amounts of geometry. The more geometry you section off, the more you’ll benefit!
Make Better Drawings
Scaled Vector Drawing
Need to add linework that’s not in your model? Create a scaled drawing in LayOut and sketch over a 3D model to flesh out your project. Or draw from details to scale from scratch directly in LayOut.

DWG Import
Import a DWG into LayOut and find illustrations already scaled to paper size. Now SketchUp projects can live side by side with CAD linework and take advantage of DWG libraries everywhere. LayOut A+: plays well with others.

Drawing Better
Inferencing, chamfering and filleting, arcs, offset arrays, selections: LayOut is even better at everything you need to draw details or create beautiful illustrations at scale.
Got BIM?
Advanced Attributes
SketchUp now features Advanced Attrbute fields for a component’s Price, Size, URL, Type, Status, and Owner. So now it’s even easier to embed projects with useful information.

Aggregated Reports
Generate Report now aggregates component data so you can do things like configure reports to sum parts and quantities for schedules and cutlists, or create detailed estimates by adding up prices by layer. It’s time to crunch model data!

IFC Import/Export
BIM works best when information moves freely between applications. You can rely on IFC in SketchUp to transfer the attributes you assign and manipulate in projects.

Do exceptional work in SketchUp Pro 2018
Smarter Sections
Section Planes are key. But you already know that. So, we made some big major improvements to them for 2018.

Information Modeling
'BIM' is about using information in your model to make better buildings. SketchUp is ready when you are!

Better Drawings
Scaled 2D drafting. DWG Import. More precise dimensions.... LayOut delivers everything you need to create great documents.

Like many computer programs, SketchUp Pro requires certain hardware and software specifications in order to install and run. These are basic requirements, though, so you may want to use our recommended suggestions to improve performance. The following list of requirements and recommendations apply to SketchUp Pro 2018.

    • SketchUp's performance relies heavily on the graphics card driver and its ability to support OpenGL 3.0 or higher. To test your graphics card's compatibility, please download and run the SketchUp 2017 Checkup application. Historically, people have seen problems with Intel-based cards with SketchUp. We don't recommend using these graphics cards with SketchUp at this time.

Compatibility Changes
SketchUp 2018
With the release of SketchUp 2018 we've removed support for Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite). There is no longer a SketchUp Make for download, our free version of SketchUp is called SketchUp Free and available in all modern web browsers.

SketchUp 2017
With the release of SketchUp 2017, we've removed support for 32-bit operating systems, OpenGL 2.0, and software rendering of models (as opposed to hardware acceleration). We also removed support for OS X 10.9 (Mavericks.)

SketchUp 2016

With the release of SketchUp 2016 we’ve removed support for OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and earlier.
High DPI Support
SketchUp is DPI aware and can adjust the sizes of Icons and drawing elements so they are sized correctly for High DPI screens. Icons are sized when SketchUp starts up. If you adjust your DPI or scaling (Microsoft Windows but only up to 150%) you will need to restart SketchUp to see correctly sized Icons and drawing elements.

Unsupported environments

Windows Vista and older
These versions of Windows are no longer supported.

Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and older
These versions of OS X are no longer supported.

A Linux version of SketchUp isn't available at this time. However, you may be interested to see how others have had success running SketchUp on Linux using Wine.

Virtualized Environments
At this time, SketchUp doesn't support operation in a virtualized environments such as VMWare or Citrix.
Per the SketchUp Pro License in section 1.1: You may not use or host the Software in a virtual server environment.

Boot Camp/Parallels/VMWare
Neither Boot Camp, VMWare nor Parallels are supported environments.

Remote Desktop Connections
Due to hardware restrictions in shared environments we can't reliably predict how SketchUp will perform. At this time SketchUp is not supported via a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) on any platform.
Note: SketchUp will run on multiple-processor machines; however, SketchUp will only use one processor. SketchUp doesn't support hyper-threading or multi-threading at this time.

You can use Logitech 3D Motion Controllers from 3Dconnexion to create models in SketchUp. The 3Dconnexion website has more information about these controllers.
