I work as an illustrator in the architectural field. My work involves constructing 3d models
based on the designer's sketches, assigning materials, and setting up the lighting. The
primary objective is to show how a project will look, as accurately as possible, prior to
actual construction. This process also serves as a tool for the designer, to help him or
her evaluate design ideas, as the project develops. It's fun and challenging work!
Artistic illustration such as Cottonwood Canyon shows the hobby side of my 3d work.
I've always been fascinated by the scenery of the desert southwest, and more recently
developed an interest in showing how life may have once been, in this region. Cottonwood
Canyon is one of my first attempts at this. The scene features a family traveling between
villages, to visit old friends. It takes place in the canyon lands near the Arizonia and
Utah border, and is set in early October, 1682.
The vegetation was all produced with Xfrog. The people and critters were set up in Poser.
Everything was then imported into Vue d'Esprit, where I added atmospherics and rendered.
